- The game encourages you to take lots of notes and screenshot anything you find interesting or notable for future reference, and you should do that
- There's an obvious goal that the game presents you at the start, but you'll have a much better time wandering and exploring as much as possible instead of putting blinders on and forcing yourself to beeline that or any future singular specific goals at a time. the main reason people bounce off of the game is that they consider One Thing as actual progress and ignore the game trying to throw at them any of the several dozen other ways to get deeper into itself
- As you progress there will be additional, permanent ways to make your way through the mansion easier through things like rerolls and ways to give you more options and tools at the start of a run; like I said before this is also a big reason to not tunnel vision a specific goal until later in the game. any new room or information should be considered progress
- Before you call it a day, give your inventory and the map one last look and check if there's something you can still do. It can be easy to lose track of items.
- All puzzles are solvable from within the game, there's no required info hidden away on real life websites or any of that.
- Once you've achieved the obvious goal, do it again.
- If you feel well and truly stuck, you probably just need to find a new clue.

- Rooms have a random chance to contain additional items, so be sure to scan each room before moving on. Each room actually has a unique pool of items that can appear, so if there's an item you really want, pay attention to which rooms it usually spawns in.
- There are a lot of puzzles based around wordplay in the mid-to-late-game. You may want to keep a thesaurus handy.
- One of the experiment results is to deliver a letter to the Mail Room. These letters often provide redundant but much more blatant hints for several puzzles you may be stuck on.
- The book "A New Clue" has hints toward multiple separate puzzles. Don't assume you're done with it after the first one.
- There are a few permanent upgrades that will make future runs easier, so you should get them as soon as possible. If you need hints, they're related to the following rooms:
